Our lanterns

We make three lanterns. Each one is assembled, charged and tested on Cobbler's Mole, and each carries a stamped product code on the underside of its base. Please quote that code when you write to us about a lantern you already own.

The Tidewarden is our flagship: a brass frame with salt-glass panes and a float charger rated for eleven hours of light from one full tide. Its product code is BW-TL-7Q4. The Tidewarden is heavy enough to stand on an open quay in a gale and is the lantern most harbour masters in the district choose.

The Gullwatch is a smaller table lantern for boats and cottages. It uses a lighter pewter frame and a single pane of frosted salt-glass, and it gives about six hours of light per tide. It is the lantern we recommend for first-time buyers and for children's rooms, because the glass stays cool to the touch.

The Harbourmoot is a hanging lantern designed for porches, pergolas and the sterns of moored boats. It shares the Tidewarden's charger but has a slimmer frame and a copper chain. Hanging lanterns ship with a spare chain link and a small brass hook.

All three lanterns can be recharged from a mains adaptor in homes that are not near the water, but we encourage owners to charge them the way they were made to be charged: by the tide, from a float line dropped over a harbour wall or a jetty.
